Patrick O'Laughlin

Patrick E O'Laughlin Esq.

Arlington, Virginia

Patrick O’Laughlin is a Maryland Barred litigator with over six years of experience. He is actively involved in matters before the Maryland and DC Attorney Grievance Commissions, as well as defense of general liability and employment liability cases. At the outset of his career, he clerked for the Hon. Julio A. Brady in the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, drafting multiple published opinions. This experience extended over two years. He then joined a local law firm where he dedicated his efforts to handling a variety of cases for a local oil company, until it decided to move its work outside the Virgin Islands. Patrick at the same time decided to return to the continental United States. Our firm had the good fortune to benefit from his joining it then.

Patrick’s representative cases include obtaining a conditional diversion agreement, with no reprimand, for a client initially charged with six violations of the Maryland Rules of Professional Conduct. Prior to his representation, the case was scheduled for trial in the Circuit Court of Prince George’s County. However, following discovery, Patrick was able to obtain the diversion agreement, representing the first time in Maryland history that a grievance matter slated for trial was disposed of via such an agreement.

Patrick has had multiple victories in a variety of personal injury cases in the District Courts of Maryland, as well as a victory for a local national restaurant chain involved in a contract dispute with a vendor.

Other cases include: successful defense on appeal of a personal injury matter, dismissed after a finding that the plaintiff violated the time requirement in Maryland Courts & Judicial Proceedings 10-104 and 10-105; and various trial victories defending personal injury claims on behalf of insurers and their insureds. He presently represents various carriers, small business, other attorneys, as well as their law firms defending a variety of legal claims.

Patrick was raised in Baltimore County, and has lived in or near Maryland for most of his life. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2006, and from University of Maryland Law in 2009.
